Clarinet Auditions at IWU
VIDEO auditions now being accepted for all instruments and vocalists. Due to recent CDC guidelines on-campus auditions have been suspended for the foreseeable future.
To upload your audition video you must first apply to IWU. After submitting your application you will receive an email with instructions for accessing your student status portal. Once you have logged in to your portal you will be able to upload your audition video using the edit portfolio link. We want you to know that we are here for you and look forward to receiving your video audition.
If you have any questions please reach out to Laura Dolan at ldolan@iwu.edu.
Requirements:
The audition committee would like to hear two selections of solo repertoire that are contrasting in tempo and style. One should be slower and expressive so that your tone and musical phrasing may be easily evaluated. The other should be faster and contain articulations so that we can evaluate technique and articulation abilities. Etudes may be substituted, but for evaluation of musical study, we prefer solo repertoire. If you prepare an ILMEA All-State for the audition, please be advised that these tend to be over-used for auditions for colleges.
Auditions need not be memorized, and they are most often heard unaccompanied. There will be a sight-reading component.
What to expect on weekday auditions:
Tour of campus
Meeting with an admissions counselor
Lunch with a music student
Ensemble rehearsal
Sample lesson
To schedule your audition, please select an available date from the calendar or call the Music Admissions Office at 1-309-556-3063.
