Voice Auditions at IWU
VIDEO auditions now being accepted for all instruments and vocalists. Due to recent CDC guidelines on-campus auditions have been suspended for the foreseeable future. We realize it might be difficult to arrange for an accompanist during this time so unaccompanied auditions are perfectly fine and WILL be accepted.
To upload your audition video you must first apply to IWU. After submitting your application you will receive an email with instructions for accessing your student status portal. Once you have logged in to your portal you will be able to upload your audition video using the edit portfolio link. We want you to know that we are here for you and look forward to receiving your video audition.
If you have any questions please reach out to Laura Dolan at ldolan@iwu.edu.
Requirements:
Auditionees are asked to sing two art songs in contrasting styles and languages. Your pieces should be performed from memory. Choose repertoire that you sing well and shows your voice to its best advantage. Book such as
Joan Boytim's First Book
series or the
26 Italian Songs and Arias
are good sources for undergraduate audition repertoire. The audition will also include a small sight-singing example.
A professional accompanist will be provided. Please bring your original music for the accompanist – no additional copies are needed.
What to expect on weekday auditions:
Tour of campus
Meeting with an admissions counselor
Music class
Ensemble rehearsal
Lunch with a music student
To schedule your audition, please select an available date from the calendar or call the Music Admissions Office at 1-309-556-3063.
